I used to think “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, ‘Wow! What a Ride!” Then I read a quote a couple months ago that read “If your body wears out, where will you live?” That got me to thinking…
As much as we like to think we are invincible, we often forget that we can’t possibly take care of everything and everyone, if we neglect to take care of ourselves. Moreover, it’s important to nurture all aspects of our well being: mind, body and spirit.
Personally I’ve used all of the excuses “I work too much. I don’t have the time. I have too many other things to do.” The problem with these arguments is that if you don’t take care of yourself you’ll be spending more time sick in bed, too tired to finish your work or too stressed to deal with every day issues that occur. You’ll find that by taking care of yourself, everything else in your life will run more smoothly.
So how do you start? We all know today’s lifestyle doesn’t allow much room for health and wellness and if you’re like me it’s impossible to make dramatic lifestyle changes. Instead, make small changes about in your routine and see what those small changes will do to prolong your life. For example:
Watch your schedule. If you are overstretched, cut unnecessary activities out. Always remember you are not perfect and neither is anyone else. Have realistic expectations for yourself and others. Get plenty of sleep, relax and learn meditation and breathing exercises that can help your body respond well to stress and anxiety.
In order to be a happy, healthy and well rounded person, remember to care for yourself in mind, body and spirit. In doing this you will be able to handle your family obligations, employee and client concerns and day to day business operations more effectively.
So if you are ready to join me in taking the first step to a healthier life, body and mind then let’s get started! Make a few simple changes so you don’t feel overwhelmed and see if those simple changes make a difference and remember sometimes your body is smarter than you, take time out to listen to it.
Be healthy and live your life to its full potential!
